What is a Podcast?
What is a Podcast? In a nutshell, podcasting for West Houston is an easy way to subscribe to Matt's weekly talks and have them auto-download to your computer or portable MP3player.
A little more detail
Podcasting is a great new way of distributing audio automatically over the internet straight to your computer and your portable MP3 player. When a site (like West Houston) offers a podcast feed you can subscribe to the feed using podcasting software and any new items can be automatically downloaded to your computer. The technology is very beneficial for news shows, churches, information broadcasts, etc.. because it allows people to broadcast their audio to anyone for free.
The name Podcast originally comes from Apple’s iPod (portable MP3 player), but podcasts are not limited to just iPods. You can listen to podcasts on any portable MP3 player or even your computer itself. But in our case you probably don't need the last option because if you wanted to just listen on you computer you can use our online talks player.
How do you subscribe to podcasts?
We have reviewed most of the popular ways of subscribing to a podcast and by far, iTunes by Apple, is the easiest, most practical and best of all, it is free.
iTunes is a program that primarily manages your music on your computer and connects to the iPod to manage your music on there as well. They have recently added a podcasting section that lists most of the podcasts that are on the internet and allows you to search and subscribe to them. If you use iTunes you can use our iTunes subscribe button to take you straight to West Houston’s area in iTunes where you just need to press the subscribe button.
If you already have a program that manages music for you, it may have a plug-in that will allow you to subscribe to podcasts. Check the help file that came with your program for more information. If it does not support podcasting then you can use one of several other programs to subscribe to podcasts. Please note that some of these are free and some do require that you pay for them. Podcast FeedNo matter which program you settle on (outside of iTunes) you will need to enter West Houston’s podcast feed so the program knows where to look when we update the website with a new talk every week. Just copy and paste the following feed.
